Capital City Roots FC started with a belief: soccer should strengthen the community it represents.

Today, we pause to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. — not only for his words, but for the responsibility his leadership still places on organizations, communities, and institutions today.

Dr. King believed progress was built collectively. That lasting change required courage, accountability, and a commitment to serve something larger than yourself. Those principles align directly with how we approach this club and the role it plays in Central Iowa.

More Than a Team — A Responsibility

Capital City Roots FC exists to compete at a high level, but competition alone was never the end goal. Soccer, at its best, is a vehicle for connection. It brings together players, families, neighborhoods, and generations under a shared purpose.

Our responsibility is to build something sustainable — on and off the field.

That means creating opportunity where barriers once existed.

It means prioritizing development over shortcuts.

It means valuing people, not just results.

Through the Rising Roots Initiative, our nonprofit arm, we are committed to expanding access to the game through youth programming, community events, education, and long-term support systems. This work isn’t symbolic. It’s structural. Strong roots create stronger outcomes.

The Role of Family in the Roots Identity

No player develops in isolation.

Behind every athlete is a family making sacrifices — parents driving to training, siblings watching from the sidelines, mentors offering guidance long before recognition arrives. These relationships are the unseen foundation of every successful pathway.

Dr. King’s legacy reminds us that values are passed down, not discovered overnight. Family, community, and environment shape who we become long before the spotlight appears.

At Capital City Roots FC, families aren’t on the outside of the club — they are part of its core. When we say we are rooted in the community, we mean the club reflects the people who support it, believe in it, and grow alongside it.
