Capital City Roots FC traveled to Champions Field in Lincoln, Nebraska on Sunday for a pivotal UPSL Premier showdown against Lincoln Reapers FC. Riding with our trusted partner RentAVan, the squad arrived focused and ready for a battle with playoff implications on the line.

After a scoreless first half filled with defensive grit and missed chances on both sides, it was the Reapers who broke through first, taking a 1-0 lead early in the second half. But the Roots didn’t back down — they responded with composure and confidence.

Kenan Hajdarevic, in just his second match for the club, delivered a game-changing performance. He first notched an assist on the tying goal, setting up Carlos Zamago who slotted home his third goal of the season, pulling the Roots level at 1-1.

Then came the moment of the match: a set piece just outside the 18-yard box. Kenan stepped up and curled a stunning shot around the wall and into the upper 90, giving the Roots the lead — and eventually, the win.

The match ended 2-1 in favor of Capital City Roots FC, a massive road victory that keeps the club in the hunt for a top-3 finish in the UPSL Premier (NE-SD-IA Conference) — the cutoff for postseason qualification and a shot at the national title.
